Frequently Asked Questions

Q:What is ContextGain?
A:ContextGain is a fast, easy and free way to give your users convenient access to related content from premium sources. In addition, ContextGain allows AdSense publishers to potentially increase their ad revenue by placing their ads on the ContextGain Panel.
Q:What is the ContextGain Panel?
A:The ContextGain Panel contains related content in a "search results" format (i.e. we display the title of the article, a short synopsis and a link to an external website that contains the full article). When your users click on a related content link, a new window with the full article opens up, giving them access to related content from premium sources without leaving your site. If you are an AdSense publisher, we give you an option to place your ads on the panel so you can generate additional revenue.
Q:How do I implement ContextGain on my site?
A:ContextGain offers four different options to incorporate related-content into your web pages: In-text Links, Side Notes, Related-keyword Cloud and Custom Links. All three implementation options display ContextGain links on your pages. When your users click on these links, a ContextGain Panel will open up. This panel includes related articles and news stories from around the Web.
Q:What are In-text Links?
A:In-text Links offer your users a convenient way to get information related to words and phrases in your web page or blog. ContextGain automatically selects keywords and phrases from your web page or blog post that may further interest your users and double underline them. Clicking on those links opens a ContextGain Panel with related news stories and articles.
Q:What is a Related-keyword Cloud?
A:A Related-keyword Cloud is a list of words and phrases that are related to your web page. They are sorted alphabetically and their font sizes are weighted according to the relevancy of each keyword to the content of the page. Each keyword in the cloud is a link that may be used by your users to activate the ContextGain Panel and get instant access to related information.
Q:What are Custom Links?
A:Custom Links are similar to in-text links. The main difference is that in-text links are generated automatically (i.e. the system selects which words and phrases on your web pages will become a ContextGain link) whereas in Custom Links you have full control over where to place the link, the link text and the query that will be used to search for related content when the link is clicked. This option requires basic familiarity with HTML
Q:How do I get started?
A:Just sign up and follow a few simple steps to get your HTML code.
Q:How much does ContextGain cost?
A:ContextGain is free. Not only that, if you are an AdSense publisher you may also increase your ad revenue as your ads can appear on the related-content pages that we generate.
Q:How does ContextGain choose keywords in the in-text, side notes and keyword cloud implementations?
A:ContextGain employs sophisticated semantic algorithms that analyze the content of your web page to "understand" what the page is about. Based on the subject matter of the page, the algorithm finds related subjects that may also interest your readers. The algorithm then finds keywords that are associated with those related subjects.
Q:How do I generate revenue from ContextGain?
A:If you are an AdSense publisher, Doclix makes it easy for you to generate additional ad revenue. In the set-up wizard, you will be asked to submit your AdSense client ID so that we can display your ads on the ContextGain panel.
Q:Will I get paid by Doclix directly?
A:No, we do not pay our publishers. However, if you are an AdSense publisher, you can generate additional ad revenue. By submitting your AdSense Client ID during set-up, we will put your ads on the ContextGain panel so that you can earn additional ad revenue.
Q:Why do I occasionally see ads that are not mine on the Doclix-generated related-content pages?
A:Occasionally, you will see our ads appear on the ContextGain panel as we reserve a portion of the ad impressions to ourselves. If you do not submit a valid AdSense ID during setup, we will only display our ads on the panel.
Q:How does the revenue sharing work (for AdSense publishers only)?
A:We reserve a certain percentage of the ad impressions for our ads. When a user views a related-content page that we generate, an algorithm chooses which ad to serve - yours or ours. The actual percentage varies and depends on several factors such as the number of page-views and the click-through rate on our links. Generally, the more page-views you have and the more ContextGain links you have on your pages, the higher your share of the revenue will be (i.e. more or your ads will be served). Roughly, a small, low-trafficked website can expect to get 60 to 70 percent of the ad impressions. A high-trafficked website with a high click-through rate on the ContextGain links can get 80 percent or more.
Q:I have no HTML knowledge. Can I still use ContextGain?
A: Absolutely. ContextGain is very easy to integrate. Once you sign up, just follow a few simple steps to get your ContextGain HTML code. Paste the code on your web pages and you're all set.
Q:What languages does ContextGain support?
A: We currently support only English but we're working on supporting additional languages, so if your site is not in English, please check back later.
